CSR is a great magazine that
ignites the spark within oneself to
succeed. I have been a regular
reader of CSR since my college
days and it inspired me a lot. The
magazine was also extremely
helpful during my preparation
for the interview and guided me
to develop the right approach.

WORLD TODAY
Apropos the article “World Today :
Coping With Economic Slowdown
Steadily”, published in the June 2010
issue of Competition Success Review, the
world today stands on the verge of a
great change on many fronts. If on one
hand Asian powerhouses China and
India are gearing up for glory days in
the foreseeable future, on the other,
traditional power centres are struggling
to cope up with the challenges posed by
the fast-changing global scenario. Richer
nations are reeling under the burden of
rising unemployment and devastated
finances. It has paved the way for the
rise of the Asian giants. Although as
Asians we are all for the emergence of
India and China as superpowers, a
balance has to be maintained somewhere.
A depleted West would not serve the
purpose. For this, policy initiatives are
going to be the most crucial factor. It is
time for the world leaders to sit together
and come up with policies which would
ensure that all the nations of the world
make equitable progress in times to
come.

KASAB TRIAL
After a series of seemingly endless
courtroom sessions, the verdict has
finally been passed. Following a trial that
had kept the whole nation hooked as
long as it lasted, a special sessions court
in Mumbai sentenced Ajmal Amir
Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist
involved in the 2008 Mumbai terror
attacks, to death on five counts. That
Kasab would get death sentence was a
foregone conclusion; hence it evoked no
surprise or raised no eyebrows.
However, there is a flip side to the story.
In Kasab, India had a chance to expose
Pakistan’s complicity in the heinous
crime. Had the prosecution been
able to establish Kasab’s Pakistani
connections, Pakistan’s lie could have
been nailed once and for all. So far,
India has not been able to utilise that
opportunity. It proves that India is at
best a soft state, and is unable to back
its stand forcefully the way even as small
a country as Israel does with elan.

LITERACY & ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT
“Literacy & Economic Development”,
an essay published under the Super Brain
Youth Contest in the June 2010 issue of
CSR, is a nice analysis of the correlation
between literacy and development. The
author of the essay, Sonali Madireddi,
has put her views across in a superbly
succinct manner, covering all crucial issues
associated with the topic. However, in
my surmise, one aspect has been left out :
the role literacy can play in enlightening
the voters of a nation, thereby bringing
about considerable administrative as well
as economic progress. Literate voters are
always difficult to shortchange, which
implies that a country wherein voters are
mostly educated, would see informed
voting practices on the part of the voters.
It will automatically lead to the election
of a more capable government, which, in
turn, will ensure an advanced level of
economic development in that country.
Most of the western European nations
are a case in point.

A GREAT MOTIVATOR
CSR plays a crucial role in boosting
the morale of Civil Services aspirants. It
is a great motivating force for all students
who want to make it big in life. The
monthly CSR Essay Contests, Super
Brain Youth Contests and Interviews of
IAS Toppers, etc., hugely inspire us and
provide us what it takes to be successful.
The exhaustive information provided by
CSR in the Careers & Courses booklet
has proved very useful for me. I express
my gratitude to the CSR Group for being
such a source of inspiration.

A ROBUST MAGAZINE
The memoirs and interviews of IAS
Toppers, published every month in CSR,
ignite a spirit of success in me and
boost my self-confidence. Although
currently I am not preparing for any
national level examination, I am proud
to say that the abovementioned columns
act as a great inspiring factor. I am very
lucky to have at my doorsteps such a
great magazine, which features a host
of extremely useful articles, especially
the “Burning Topics” that are published
each month. Here, I would like to
make a special mention of the “Latest
In General Knowledge” column,
which boosts my knowledge to a great
extent. It is an invaluable reservoir
of information, particularly pertaining
to the sphere of scientific and
technological progress in India. That
apart, this unique magazine also enables
the readers to write essays and articles.
